Next Talcum Powder Lawsuit Trial Has Johnson & Johnson Seeking Change Of Venue

Talcum Powder Lawsuit Filings Allege Women Developed Ovarian Cancer After Regular Use Of Johnson & Johnson’s Talcum Powder Products.

Talcum-Powder-Ovarian-Cancer-LawsuitAs Johnson & Johnson faces another Talcum powder lawsuit trial, their attorneys are seeking a change of venue 100 miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Johnson & Johnson filed a motion citing constant attorney advertising in the St. Louis, area makes it difficult to get a fair trial. The Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis is where Johnson & Johnson lost two trials earlier this year. In February a jury hearing another talcum powder lawsuit awarded $72 million to the family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer after using Johson & Johnson’s baby powder products for 30 years (Talcum Powder Lawsuit Case No. 1422-CC09012-01). Another talcum powder lawsuit jury trial last May awarded a South Dakota woman diagnosed with stage I ovarian cancer $55 million.

In addition to talcum powder lawsuits there are approximately 1,000 talcum powder cancer lawsuits awaiting litigation that continue the allegations that routine use of Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower (a product no longer sold by the company) for feminine hygiene may cause women to develop ovarian cancer. (Talcum Powder Cancer Lawsuit Case No. 1422-CC09012-02, Circuit Court of the City of St. Louis, Missouri)

“Wherever the next trial is held, jurors will still hear plaintiff’s allegations that Johnson & Johnson failed to disclose the cancer risks associated with its talc products,” says Dr. François Blaudeau, co-founder of Southern Med Law who is both an attorney and a practicing obstetrician/gynecologist.

Southern Med Law attorneys continue to speak with women and their families from across the country regarding talcum powder cancer lawsuits. The firm urges women who believe they developed cancer due to using Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower or Baby Powder to contact one of the firm’s attorneys to discuss their legal rights and for a free talcum powder cancer lawsuit review. Johnson & Johnson’s motion claims that about 319 advertisements, or 23 percent of ads nationwide regarding the talcum powder litigation, ran in the St. Louis area from March to May, according to a report in the Madison-St. Clair Record. Additionally, from July 1, 2015 to June 30 of this year, “nearly 19,000” ads aired on local and national TV stations. The company’s motion also said that media coverage of the verdicts could harm their case, according to the report.

Talc is a soft mineral consisting of magnesium, silicon, hydrogen and oxygen. Talc absorbs moisture, prevents rashes and reduces friction. The mineral is found in familiar products such as cosmetics, rice, and chewing gum.

In addition to St. Louis, court records show that nearly 190 talcum powder cancer lawsuits are consolidated in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court. (In Re: Talc-Based Talcum Powder Products – Case No. 300, Atlantic County Superior Court, New Jersey) In July, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation was asked to consolidate 11 talcum powder cancer lawsuits pending in federal courts nationwide.
