Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits Allege The Blood Thinner Triggers Severe Bleeding Side Effects
As courts update the number of monthly lawsuit filings, Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits saw an influx of filings over the past month. There were 1,210 additional filings of Xarelto lawsuits, with the belief that more blood thinner lawsuits will be filed as people are not fully aware of the potential side-effects associated with the prescription blood thinner.
There are currently 4,610 Xarelto lawsuits pending in consolidated litigation in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana and in mass tort litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. The combined total is up from 3,987 in January. The filings have similar complaints that defendants Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. failed to adequately warn of Xarelto’s potentially dangerous side effects that include internal bleeding, brain bleeds and blood clots. The blood thinner Xarelto was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prevent strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem. After its initial approval in 2011, Xarelto went on to garner $2 billion in sales nationwide by 2013, according to Xarelto complaints. The blockbuster drug does not require routine blood monitoring which is why it is more popular with patients than warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), a blood thinner that has been sold in the United States for more than 60 years. Xarelto does not have an approved antidote to treat internal bleeding side effects, according to the FDA. Warfarin uses vitamin K as an antidote for adverse bleeding events.

Plaintiffs filing Xarelto bleeding lawsuits contend advertisements for the blood thinner are misleading because Bayer and Janssen do not fully disclose all of Xarelto’s potentially adverse bleeding side-effects nor mention the drug’s failure to prevent dangerous blood clots which can lead to death.
