IVC Filter Class Action Lawsuit Would Monitor Patients With Inferior Vena Cava Filters For Breaking, Tilting or Migration That Could Cause Serious Injuries.

Plaintiffs in a proposed IVC Filter class-action lawsuit against C.R. Bard seek a medical monitoring program for patients implanted with the company’s Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filters. The potential IVC filter class action lawsuit join more than 600 individual IVC filter lawsuits pending in the U.S. District Court of Arizona. IVC filter lawsuits claims allege Bard’s medical devices fail to prevent blood clots due to their propensity to tilt, fracture and perforate the vena cava. IVC Filter Class Action Lawsuit

The 11 plaintiffs, who all have Bard IVC filters that have not been removed, are asking to represent thousands of other IVC filter patients nationwide. These patients had implants of Bard’s Recovery, Eclipse, G2, Meridian and Denali filter systems. According to IVC filter lawsuits, the proposed monitoring program would determine whether a Bard IVC filter should be removed. If removed it also call to “gather information on the appearance, condition, and location of the IVC filter.” Also to be determined is whether the IVC has fractured, migrated, perforated, or tilted. This information could provide a doctor with the information necessary to safely remove the Bard filter.

The plaintiffs seeking the proposed IVC Filter class-action lawsuit and IVC filter monitoring live in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The class-action complaint has been consolidated in the multidistrict litigation (MDL) for Bard IVC filters by order of U.S. District Judge David G. Campbell, who is managing the MDL. What Is An IVC Filter

IVC filters are small, cage-like devices implanted in the inferior vena cava, a major vessel that returns blood from the lower half of the body to the heart. The IVC filter captures blood clots to prevent them from traveling to the heart and lungs and causing a pulmonary embolism. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends removal of IVC filters within 29 to 54 days or as soon as the threat of pulmonary embolism subsides because the longer the device remains implanted, the greater the risk of failure.

In August 2015, an MDL for all federally filed Bard IVC Recovery and G2 IVC filter lawsuit claims were consolidated in the Arizona district court for pretrial proceedings. The IVC filter complaints contend that Bard knew that its filters malfunction by migrating, tilting, and breaking but failed to conduct adequate clinical testing to ensure the medical devices would perform safely and effectively for short-term and long-term use.
